The James Race Memorial Award

This award was originally funded by the family of founding HOEOCA Commodore, James Race, and is now being offered by the committee from club funds. 

The successful applicant will receive a contribution of up to £250 towards a practical RYA sailing qualification in tidal waters, to be used wherever the recipient chooses. Other formal sailing-related courses may be considered providing they demonstrate experience of sailing in tidal waters. Normally one award will be made per year although the board of HOEOCA reserves the right to vary this. Awards cannot be spread across multiple courses.

In order to be considered you must have been a member of HOEOCA for a minimum of one year and, although no specific sailing qualifications are required, the committee will favour candidates who have demonstrated a passion for sailing and a commitment to the activities offered by the Club.

A written application should be submitted to include the following 

1. Previous sailing experience and any existing qualifications
2. Evidence of commitment to the club
3. How the award would be used 
4. How both you and HOEOCA would benefit should you be successful 

Applications are considered on an annual basis and must be submitted by 31 December to our Rear Commodore Training. 

The Committee reserves the right to make the final decision when making these awards. Feedback will be offered should an application prove to be unsuccessful. Funds will be released on proof of acceptance onto an approved course and all monies must be spent during the financial year following the 31 December deadline.
