We're delighted to welcome Nigel Race, a former Commander in the Royal Navy and the son of HOEOCA's founding Commodore Jim Race, to share reflections on his recent voyage to the high southern latitudes, inspired by the spirit of Sir Ernest Shackleton and the great age of Antarctic exploration.

Sailing the great Southern seas in distinguished company, including renowned yachtsman Pete Goss among the crew, the expedition visited South Georgia, experiencing something of the scale, beauty and solitude that shaped Shackleton’s remarkable story. Although the voyage did not ultimately reach Antarctica itself, the journey proved memorable and meaningful in many other ways.

A call into the Falkland Islands, returning to a place of personal significance following earlier service there, added a further reflective note to the adventure.

This promises to be a thoughtful and engaging evening of storytelling, seamanship and the enduring pull of the high latitudes. We hope you’ll join us.
