What We Do
The objective of the Club is to promote and encourage all forms of yacht sailing (from cruising to racing) for people of 18 and above who live, primarily, in the West Midlands. We aim to provide opportunities to participate in a variety of activities to enable members to improve all aspects of their sailing skills. We welcome members at all stages in the development of their sailing skills.
We do this is a number of ways:
By providing training opportunities for both theoretical and practical RYA approved coursesWe are an RYA training centre and offer both the RYA Day and Coastal Skipper qualifications at local evening classes. We supplement this training with other RYA courses such as First Aid, Diesel Engine Maintenance, Sea Survival and VHF throughout the year. |
By arranging sailing rallies for Club members, using a mix of members’ and charter boatsThe Association organises 4 or 5 day club rallies in May or June and November of each year for those who wish to apply the theory learned, build up sea miles as well as visit new places and enjoy one another’s company. The May/June rally normally ventures cross-channel to France and the Channel Isles. In September each year a smaller rally is organised to the Mediterranean where we run our own mini flotilla. |
By arranging for Club members to compete in racing weekends in the Solent, using Racing YachtsThere are a number of opportunities to sail at a faster pace with our Racesail weekends. |
By providing a forum for members to meet and develop their own sailing activitiesWe also meet informally on the first Tuesday of each month throughout the year at the club house and make available other opportunities for crewing and chartering via the website, newsletters and word of mouth. |
By organising a programme of club nights through the Winter seasonFrom September through to May we meet formally once per month on the third (or occasionally!) fourth Thursday. On these evenings we enjoy talks from a range of speakers; both internal and external on topics ranging from Atlantic crossings to information about new developments in boat equipment with the occasional quiz thrown in. See the Diary Events page for dates and topics. |
