Spring Rally 2012 - June 6th - 10th

Our 5 day rally this year takes us back to beautiful St Peter Port in Guernsey where our rally dinner is booked at the Old Government House Hotel on the Friday night. Boats will be crossing the channel from ports from Chichester to Plymouth and we'll try to pay a visit to France and/or Alderney too!

Please come and join us, whatever your level of experience.

Cost is £160 & £30 dinner

Sunsail have released their dates for the 2012 Solent Racing Series:

Round 1 - March 17th & 18th
Round 2 - March 31st & April 1st
Round 3 - April 14th & 15th
Round 4 - July 14th & 15th
Round 5 - August 25th & 26th
Round 6 - September 22nd & 23rd
Round 7 - October 6th & 7th
Round 8 - October 20th & 21st

Book these (provisional) dates in your diaries for 2012! Dates Bold & Italics are the proposed weekends - so far. Keep watching this site for details on forthcoming events.

HOEOCA Laying -Up Supper - Thanks to all who attended

This years Laying Up Supper took place at the Manor Hotel in Meriden, and was attended by many HOEOCA members. Thank you all for supporting the Club, and this years Charity, the Ellen McArthur Trust. We raised a lot of money for this great cause, & had a fantastic time at the hotel.

Our Commodore gave a great speech, despite still recovering from a cold gained at the Autumn Rally! The awards were presented for the Best Dressed Boat, and the Commodores award (the Golden Ladle), and the raffle prizes were gladly picked-up by the grinning winners.

Thanks again to Maureen for organising the whole evening, and for all of those who donated time to the setup of the room, and also raffle prizes. We hope you're already looking forward to the next year of sailing!

HOEOCA Laying-Up Supper - Don't miss out!

This years Laying-Up Supper will be held in the Banqueting Suite at the Manor Hotel in Meriden, and will be the opportunity to tell some stories from the past year, look forward to the Next Sailing Year, and dance the night away! Please bring your friends - Tables can be 8 or 10. You may already have a group, or like to join a group.

It will take place on Saturday December 3rd 2011. It all starts at 19:00 (for seating at 19:30), and will go on until Midnight. The cost is £30 per person, and tickets can be booked via Maureen Highfield, or any of the Committee members

If you would like to stay, discounted accommodation is available (which can be booked directly with the hotel – just call them on 01676 52 27 35, & mention the Date, and that you’re with the HOEOCA party).

The Menu is as follows:

Starter: Cream of Vegetable Soup

Main Course: Prime Roast Sirloin of Herefordshire Beef, Classic Chasseur Sauce
Vegetarian Option: Sweet Corn Fritter with Mushroom, Cauliflower and Chickpea Ragout, Black Olive and Herb Couscous
Both served with Seasonal vegetables and potatoes

Dessert: Lemon Mouse Tart, Meringue, Lemon Sorbet

Followed by: Coffee, Mince Pies and Chocolates

An evening with Tom Cunliffe review

There was a full house for the HOEOCA speaker evening Tom Cunliffe the big man of the sea, yes all 6 foot plus, gave us a very enlightening, passionate, humorous talk about his BBC series ‘The Boats that Built Britain’. He gave us a wonderful night, his enthusiasm was infectious. You can always tell when the speaker is enjoying his subject, at one point his humour was out done by a newly acquired chair collapsing (the HOEOCA member will remain anonymous), at which point TC recalled a similar experience. So to sum up, you missed a great night, but hopefully he’ll be back next year.

The Bristol Pilot Cutter, one of the boats mentioned in the series, brings back memories. My daughter and I had a long weekend in the Solent on Annabel J, a pilot cutter. A great experience, lots of string, very comfortable and quite luxurious complete with hostess, for meals and afternoon tea, I can certainly recommend this, check out http://www.classic-sailing.co.uk/ ( pilot cutters )
