Cruising - Hot Hot Hot goes West - BVIs March 2019

The Baths

For the first time HOEOCA are organising a trip further afield, to the British Virgin Islands in the Caribbean. We will be sailing from Tortola and are planning a 10 day charter.

Charter Dates

Wednesday 27 March - Saturday 6 April.

Charter Costs

I estimate this will be c £850 - £920 per person (exchange rate dependent) which includes the obligatory extras like damage waiver insurance, cleaning, tourist taxes and even a cell phone! An initial deposit of £235 will be required. The balance (including most of the extras) will be payable 10 weeks beforehand.

Flights and Accomodation

There are a number of options for getting there but you cannot fly direct. Probably the easiest is to fly from Gatwick to Antigua with Virgin or BA and onwards from there although this cannot be done in one day. I am advised that, following last years hurricanes, there is limited accomodation on Tortola and many hotels are not taking bookings until December 2019.

For those who would like to travel as a group I am proposing the following itinerary. I have been working with a travel agent to try to put a package together but this has not yet proved a cost effective option. We can have another go if enough are interested.

Equally, you are free to make your own arrangements and we'll see you at the marina!

26 March

Fly Virgin from Gatwick 1100 to Antigua 1600. Overnight near airport

27 March

Fly Caribbean Airlines Antigua 1130 to Tortola 1325

27 March

10 day charter. Road Island Marina

6 April

Disembark Return Tortola 1535 to Antigua 1640

6 April

3 nights on Antigua. Probably villa/resort type accommodation as we won’t have much in the way of luggage/posh frocks!

9 April

Fly Virgin from Antigua (1600) to Gatwick

10 April

0500 arrive Gatwick

As for all such trips, HOEOCA will organise and cash flow the charter but crew will be responsible for booking the other elements themselves. In this case, given the costs involved, we will be filling boat by boat and your place is therefore dependent upon there being enough sailing experience on each and, for singles, a person of the same sex to share a cabin with.

You should be aware that living costs are expensive e.g. £50 p.p. for dinner.

Update @ 290818

2 boats are now chartered for 12 people.

I will look at putting a third boat together if there is sufficient serious interest. If you can make the dates and would like to come please email Judy Lambourne
